Snuggle & Snooze

Guinea pigs need safe bedding which is clean, absorbent, dust free and soft on their feet.

Choosing the correct bedding can prevent sensitive foot injuries and protect against respiratory issues.

Barley straw is a great choice of bedding for your little pets. It is an effective insulator, which will help to keep your guinea pigs warm, especially in colder months. The chopped strands  are soft and make a cosy environment, and can encourage natural behaviour, like nesting.

Shredded paper is very popular as it is soft and  cosy and super absorbent. It is not recommended to use office or household newspaper, as it does not absorb moisture very well and any ink can be toxic for your little piggie.

Hay can be a great bedding choice as it encourages lots of natural behaviours like burrowing and tunnelling, which is good for their physical and emotional well-being.

Wood shavings provide comfort and warmth. They create a cosy, snuggle-ready space for tiny bodies, as well as being absorbent.

All of these materials offer a unique texture and level of durability, providing a sense of security and privacy that guinea pigs love.

These products are all natural and compostable, so make great eco friendly options.

The short answer is no, providing they are well cared for and their environment is regularly cleaned, then your guinea pig shouldn't smell.

If you do notice any unpleasant odours, it is important to investigate. Your pets might require more regular cleaning of their cage, or a trip to the vets to check your piggies are fully healthy!

Yes. Providing that their hutch is in a sheltered place where there are no drafts. During cold spells, it is important to place plenty of bedding and hay in with them, and to also cover the hutch with warm blankets or towels and tarpaulin. Any loose covers should be appropriately secured.
